The History Of John Deere Ottumwa Works:
1882 - 2006
- 2007 - John Deere Ottumwa Works makes a full line of hay and forage harvesting equipment under 22 acres of roof, and produces the world's finest hay and forage equipment.
- 1947 - Plant name changed to John Deere Ottumwa Works.
- 1914 - World's first side-delivery hay rake improves hay curing and cuts labor costs by 40%.
- 1911 - Dain Manufacturing becomes part of Deere & Company.
- 1900 - Dain builds new plant in Ottumwa at the present site of John Deere Ottumwa Works.
- 1895 - Dain Company arranges to sell haying equipment through John Deere Plow Company of Kansas City.
- 1888 - A new plant was built at Carrollton, Missouri, to meet the growing demand for "Great Dain" equipment.
- 1883 - The company moved to a small factory near Kansas City.
- 1882 - Joseph Dain designed and patented hay stackers and sweep rakes and began making them in Springfield, Missouri.
